How Much Does It Cost?
(and important information to know before choosing an SAP)
Initially...Nothing! We can start the process with no money down and accept payment plans as well. You can complete your initial evaluation AND the recommended education/counseling right away before paying a dime. We will require $500 prior to marking you down as eligible for the RTD (Return-To-Duty) test in the Clearinghouse.
You will also need to take a drug and/or alcohol test prior to completing your follow-up evaluation. This test will be for our records and is not the RTD test. They usually cost around $30 depending on your local drug testing clinics.
The counseling/education recommendations are separate from this cost, although in most cases you will only be required to complete an online education program which costs $150.
In total it will cost $680 for most cases to be complete and eligible to take the RTD test with an employer.
Important: Please note we are giving prices for the initial & follow-up evaluations, follow-up testing plan, drug testing, AND the counseling/education recommendations. Most SAP's will not tell you up front how much the counseling/education recommendations will cost, any other hidden fees, or that once you choose an SAP in the Clearinghouse and complete the initial evaluation you ARE NOT allowed to get a second opinion or change your SAP and are required to complete whatever recommendations they make

What are the steps to the RTD process?
Step 1:
Log into your Clearinghouse account and select who will be your qualified SAP. Make sure you are aware of how the process works, what it costs and what is expected of you before selecting an SAP since you cannot change your SAP once you start.
Step 2:
The SAP accepts the request to be your counselor and schedules the initial evaluation
Step 3:
Complete the initial evaluation with your SAP and be given instructions on how to complete the recommendations (educational class, individual counseling, treatment)
Step 4:
Complete the follow-up evaluation with your SAP to determine if all recommendations have been completed. At this time your SAP marks down in the Clearinghouse that you are ready for the RTD test with an employer. (Please note that SAP's are only able to get you to the point of being "eligible for the return to duty test" and cannot access the Clearinghouse past this step. We go above and beyond and can help with the next steps but any SAP that states they can "complete the entire process for you" is incorrect and likely a scam).
Step 5:
Complete the RTD test with an employer, afterwards the employer marks you down as eligible to return to driving & safety sensitive duties. If you do not have an employer and need to complete this step ASAP we can make referrals to CTPA's (Certified Third Party Administrators) who can take care of this step for you. Most CTPA's charge $150-200 for this service. It's important to make sure the employer or CTPA enters the date of your RTD test into the Clearinghouse since some companies neglect to do so and this will affect your ability to legally drive. We are here for you and want to make sure you know what to expect and how to check if they are doing the process correctly to help protect your license. We continue to help you and your employer complete the process successfully even past step 4 and do not charge any extra for this service!
Step 6:
Complete the follow-up testing. Once you select an employer or CTPA to do the RTD test with, your SAP sends the company all needed paperwork which includes a follow-up testing plan. When you complete the last follow-up test the employer or CTPA enters that date into the clearinghouse to show you are done with the entire process. It is important to make sure the company enters this date and is giving you follow-up tests IN ADDITION to randoms. You will also want to keep copies of these tests so you will not be required to start over with the testing at another company if you switch employers before you finish the process. We will simply email the new company your paperwork at no extra cost, and you give them copies of your completed tests.
